What is a Microbiome?

A microbiome describes the population of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes within a given sample. Most tests only detect one species at a time and generally return a presence or absence result. Whereas, a microbiome profile will capture all species, and their DNA abundance.

A microbiome can give a better indication of gut health by knowing the biodiversity or detection of unwanted microbes. A microbiome test can be performed from a mouth swab or from a faecal sample.

Turnaround: 4-8 weeks

What is returned?

  • A spreadsheet of all microbes detected and their DNA abundance.

  • Where possible, a description of each microbe’s importance in regards to the animal.

  • Phone call consultation of the results.
